Thursday, December 31, 2009
-
On Thursday at 0646 hours, the 553 box alarm was struck for 232 Spectacular Bid Drive, bringing the Hose Company and E213.  Chief 5-1, Chief 5-2, Engine 511 (w/3), Engine 512 (w/6), Engine 513, Engine 514, Engine 515 (w/3), Quint 5 (w/8) and Tower 5 (w/3) marked up shortly after alert.  Dispatch advised all units that they received a report from the homeowner that that house was filling with smoke.  Quint 5 was first to arrive at 0655 hours, Captain 5-5 (Hurst) established the "Spectacular Bid Drive" command and advised he had nothing showing from the alpha side of a two story single family.  Shortly after arrival, command advised he had smoke in the dwelling and called for the Working Fire Dispatch, bringing Engine 113 and Medic 592.  Remaining units arrived shortly after and after further investigation, found the source of the smoke to be a furnace malfunction.  Crews set up positive pressure ventilation and then cleared after the house was vented.  Chief 5-1 (Carroll) held the "Spectacular Bid Drive" command.
