Welcome To Susquehanna Hose Company

The Susquehanna Hose Company is responsible for the fire protection services for the City of Havre De Grace, Maryland. Havre De Grace is located along the Susquehanna River as it enters into the Chesapeake Bay. The City of Havre De Grace has a population of around 16 thousand people and is famous for its waterfront, decoys, and the Concord Point Lighthouse. The Susquehanna Hose Company consists of five firehouses that operate 5 Engines, Tower, Quint, Rescue, Mini-Pumper, 3 Boats, Dive Unit, Swift Water Unit and 4 Utility Vehicles. The Hose Company has responded to each and every call alerted for over the last several decades and is known as "The Fastest Volunteers in the Nation" because of its extremely fast response times. The Susquehanna Hose Company consistently responds 7-8 pieces of fire apparatus on calls. We pride ourselves on our dedication to the citizens of Havre De Grace.

CARBON MONOXIDE LEAK : 218 GRACECROFT CT

Friday, January 27, 2012  On Friday at 1812 hours, the Hose Company was alerted to investigate possible CO in the dwelling at 218 Gracecroft Court, at the request of Medic 591.  Chief 5, Chief 5-2, Quint &  Rescue 5 marked up shortly after alert.  Units arrived to find Company 5-9 treating a patient with CO levels.  After an investigation, it was found that the stove had emitted 200 parts per million of CO.  Crews quickly shut off and disconnected the gas to the stove and vented the residence.

HOSE COMPANY LOGS OVER 12,000 TRAINING HOURS IN 2011

The most impressive stat to close out the 2011 year is the amount of training hours that Hose Company members completed.  Hose Company Officers & members logged 12,136 hours of training during the year.  This is a GREAT accomplishment and a well deserved congratulations goes out to all members.  A special thanks to Deputy Chief Goll and his training committee and also to Goll's Bakery for the cake!


   


 

THREE ENGINES TO THE ABERDEEN APARTMENT : 309 S PARKE STREET

Tuesday, January 10, 2012  On Tuesday at 1513 hours, the 212 fire box was struck for 309 S Parke Street for the reported apartment fire, which brought Engine 512 (w/8, Battalion Chief 2 Hinch).  Engine 211 (Chief Hinch) was first on scene with heavy smoke from a two story apartment building.  At that time, the box assignment was filled and the working fire dispatch was alerted, which brought Engine 513 & Engine 514.  Crews found fire on the first and second floor, which extended above the ceiling on the second floor.  The fire was quickly knocked and crews continued to check for extension before clearing after approximately an hour.  The fire is currently under investigation by the Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office and Chief 2 (Hinch) held the "S Parke Street" command.

NEW THERMAL IMAGING CAMERA

The Hose Company recently took delivery of a new Bullard Eclipse Thermal Imaging Camera, which included a vehicle charger & spare battery.  The new camera and charger were mounted & are ready for service on Engine 512.  This is a GREAT upgrade from the previous camera and a training session will be set up in the near future.

NEW MEMBER OF THE FAMILY

Thursday, January 5, 2012  The Officers and members of the Hose Company send their congratulations to Firefighter Brian Minutoli & wife Lisa.  Brian and Lisa welcomed their newest family member, Louis John (LJ), today at 1:08am.  LJ weighed in at 6lbs, 12 oz and measured in at 19 inches.  Mom, baby & dad are all doing well and are expected home soon.  Congrats!!!!


   


 

COMPANY TRAINING AT PERRY POINT : CHIMNEY FIRES

Tuesday, January 3, 2012  On Tuesday at 1900 hours, members met at House 4 for monthly company training.  The night started with dinner and the classroom portion, where Captain Bannon presented a slide show regarding chimney fires and how to extinguish them.  The crews then loaded up and headed to Perry Point for some hands on training.  Crews conducted interior and roof ops for approximately two hours and then headed home.  It was a great night of training for all and we look forward to next month.  Many thanks to all those who attended, despite the bitter temperature.


     



 

SECOND IN TOWN CRASH OF THE DAY : JUNIATA & CONGRESS

Tuesday, January 3, 2012  On Tuesday at 1713 hours, the Hose Company and Company 5-9 were alerted for the 10-50 PI at the intersection of S Juniata Street & Congress Avenue.  Engine 512 (Bannon), Quint 5 (Hurst) and Rescue 5 (Triplett) marked up shortly after alert.  Engine 512 was first on scene with a two vehicle crash with two patients.  The Engine crew quickly established patient care & began checking for hazards.  A minor spill was put in check and command scaled back to Engine 512 & the Medics.  Engine 512 remained on scene until the patients were transported and then cleared.  Captain 52 (Bannon) held the "Juniata Street" command.


     



 

TWO VEHICLE CRASH WITH ONE TRAPPED : REVOLUTION & SOUTH STOKES

Tuesday, January 3, 2012  On Tuesday at 1248 hours, the Hose Company & Company 5-9 were alerted for the 10-50 PI with rescue at the intersection of Revolution Street & S Stokes Street (503 box).  Chief 5, Engine 512 (Bannon), Quint 5 (Hurst) & Rescue 5 (Triplett) marked up shortly after alert.  Chief 5 was first on scene with a two vehicle crash and advised he had one trapped.  Engine 512 was next to arrive, established patient care and placed a handline in service to cover during extrication.  Rescue 5 was next to arrive, crews quickly stabilized the vehicle and began removing the driver side rear door and 'B' post.  The patient was quickly extricated and crews began to pick up.  Crews remained on scene until the patient was transported and then cleared.  Chief 5 (Hurst) held the "Revolution Street" command.
