Welcome To Susquehanna Hose Company

The Susquehanna Hose Company is responsible for the fire protection services for the City of Havre De Grace, Maryland. Havre De Grace is located along the Susquehanna River as it enters into the Chesapeake Bay. The City of Havre De Grace has a population of around 16 thousand people and is famous for its waterfront, decoys, and the Concord Point Lighthouse. The Susquehanna Hose Company consists of five firehouses that operate 5 Engines, Tower, Quint, Rescue, Mini-Pumper, 3 Boats, Dive Unit, Swift Water Unit and 4 Utility Vehicles. The Hose Company has responded to each and every call alerted for over the last several decades and is known as "The Fastest Volunteers in the Nation" because of its extremely fast response times. The Susquehanna Hose Company consistently responds 7-8 pieces of fire apparatus on calls. We pride ourselves on our dedication to the citizens of Havre De Grace.

TRACTOR TRAILER VS. HYDRANT BARRIER WITH A RUPTURED SADDLE TANK IN THE 505 BOX

Thursday, October 6, 2011  On Thursday at 1400 hours, the 505 Hazmat Box was struck for 1900 Clark Road for the reported large diesel spill.  Engine 512, Engine 513, Rescue 5 & Mini-Pumper 5 marked up shortly after alert.  Engine 512 was first on scene at 1409 hours and advised a tractor trailer had struck a hydrant barrier pole and ruptured a saddle tank.  Crews began controlling the spill with absorbent, pads and a hazmat pool and remained on scene until the arrival of the Harford County Hazmat Team.  Deputy Chief 5 (Goll Jr) held the "Clark Road" command.


     



 

ENGINE 512 & ENGINE 513 TO THE PERRYVILLE APARTMENT

Thursday, September 15, 2011  On Thursday at 0404 hours, the Hose Company was alerted for 2 Engines as part of the Cecil County 606 Fire Box for the reported apartment fire with people trapped at 212 Craigtown Road.  Engine 512 (w/4, Lamana) & Engine 513 (w/4, Andrews) marked up shortly after alert.  Chief 6 was first on scene with smoke showing from a two story, eight unit apartment building.  Engine 512 (3rd Engine) arrived at 0414 hours and was instructed by command to pull a second line off Engine 6 and advance it to the first floor apartment.  Engine 6's crew & Engine 512's crew located a small bedroom fire on the first floor, which had been held in check by a sprinkler.  Crews knocked a small amount of fire around the bed and checked for extension.  Engine 513 arrived at 0420 hours and also assisted with checking for extension.  Crews remained on scene until 0445 hours and then cleared.

HOUSE 4 HELPS WITH EVACUATION

Saturday, September 10, 2011 

On Thursday September 9, Rescue 5 and Engine 514 were called to assist Co. 5-9 with an evacuation of Citizens Care Center. An initial crew of 4 went down at 4pm to begin evacuations. Throughout the evening 6 more members from house 4 showed up to assist for a total of 10 members. Approximately 150 total patients were triaged and transported. Patients from the nursing home were transported to several facilities all over the state. Several mutual aid companies were involved in the evacuation including, Joppa- Magnolia, Bel Air, Abingdon, Level, Whiteford, Darlington, Fallston, Perryville and the Harford County Fire and EMS Foundation. Several private ambulance companies were also involved in the evacuation. The evacuation lasted well into the night with hose company members making it back to the station around 2am. 55 FLAG FLYING HIGH IN AFGHANISTAN

Sunday, September 4, 2011  The members of House 5 recently received an email from our brother Sgt. 1st Class Danny Gonzalez who is currently deployed in Afghanistan.  Attached were several pics of House 5's flag flying high in the sky over Paktika Province, Sharana, Afghanistan.  Danny is doing well & we look forward to hearing from him again soon.  Be safe brother!


     



 

ENGINE 514 & TOWER 5 : THE FIRE TASK FORCE : 1009 WARWICK DRIVE

Sunday, August 28, 2011  On Sunday at 1407 hours, the Hose Company was alerted for an Engine & Tower as part of the Fire Task Force for 1009 Warwick Drive (216 box).  Engine 514 (Wilson) & Tower 5 (McCloud) marked up immediately after alert and arrived at 1412 hours.  Engine 213 was first on scene at 1405 hours with fire showing from the second floor of a three story garden style and requested the working fire dispatch & the fire task force.  Upon arrival, Engine 514 & Tower 5 were assigned RIT & remained on scene until 1444 hours.  Crews made a quick knock & command then began scaling back.  Captain 2 (Hinch) held the "Warwick Drive" command.


Also during this time, Engine 512 (Lamana) was alerted to relocate to Company 2, but was placed in service just prior to arriving.


   


 

CARBON MONOXIDE LEAK WITH ONE TRANSPORTED

Sunday, August 28, 2011  On Sunday at 2147 hours, the Hose Company and Company 5-9 were alerted for the possible carbon monoxide leak with one possible patient at 518 Franklin Street.  Chief 5, Chief 5-1, Chief 5-2, Engine 512 & Tower 5 marked up shortly after alert.  Upon arrival, crews found levels of CO ranging from 200 to 300 parts per million.  While Hose Company crews were venting the dwelling, Company 5-9 was evaluating a single patient, who was eventually transported to a local hospital.  The cause of the leak was determined to be a generator that had been running for hours on the first floor.  Crews cleared once the dwelling was vented.


As a reminder, if you're going to have a gas powered generator running, it needs to be OUTSIDE.


     



 

ENGINE 512 TO THE PORT DEPOSIT HOUSE & ENGINE 515 TO STATION 72

Thursday, August 25, 2011  On Thursday at 0956 hours, the Hose Company was alerted for two engines to the scene of the Cecil County working house fire at 13 Birch Court.  Engine 512 (w/5, Goll Jr) and Engine 515 (w/5, Hurst) marked up shortly after alert.  While enroute, command advised Engine 512 to proceed to the scene and Engine 515 to relocate to Station 72.  Engine 512 arrived the scene at 1008 hours and assisted with extensive overhaul until 1107 hours.  Engine 515 arrived Station 72 at 1015 hours and remained until 1143 hours.


   


 

TWO VEHICLE MVC WITH ONE FLOWN

Saturday, August 20, 2011  On Saturday at 2054 hours, the Hose Company & Company 5-9 were alerted for the 10-50 PI at the intersection of Heather Way & Hall Court.  Chief 5, Rescue 5 & Quint 5 marked up shortly after alert.  Chief 5 was first on scene at 2058 hours, advised a car had struck a parked car & requested aviation for one priority two, category B patient.  Rescue & Quint 5 arrived shortly after, assisted with patient care & checked for any hazards.  A minor spill was put in check and crews remained on scene until the patient was transported to the landing zone by Medic 592.  The patient was then loaded in to Trooper 1 and transported to a Baltimore Trauma Center.  Chief 5 (Hurst) held the "Heather Way" command.

     



 

HOSE COMPANY TAKES PART IN AMERICA'S 9/11 MOTORCYCLE RIDE

Saturday, August 20, 2011  The Hose Company once again took part & honored America's 9/11 Motorcycle Ride on Saturday, August 20th.  Each Division took apparatus & crews to each of the Interstate 95 overpasses in our first due to honor the ride.  Engine 511 & Car 502 also took part in the ride, traveling from the Maryland House Rest Area to the World Trade Center Memorial in New York City.  It was a great honor for the Hose Company to once again take part in this event & we look forward to it again next year.

HEAVY RAIN FLOODS SEVERAL AREAS OF TOWN

Sunday, August 14, 2011  Over the past week, the Havre de Grace area has received copious amounts of rain, which has caused flooding in several areas of the City.  Despite the heavy rain & storms, the Hose Company has remained quiet.  However, as always, the Hose Company remains ready to act whenever called upon.

A reminder to citizens, do NOT drive or walk through high water.  You may not be aware of the depth or current of the water & you could quickly be swept in to swift water.
